ok, langsung saja. soalnya aq tunggu-tunggu kok belom ada y ang mengeluh mengenai pemakaian repo mandriva 2010 dari internet, yang kadang nyambung kadang nggak. minimal dengan warning minta update database urpmi, kek gini. misalnya mo upgrade paket mencoder.

Mandriva 2010 Spring development has begun

One week ago, Mandriva Cooker, which will lead to version 2010 Spring in about 6 months was opened again. In 8 days, this has resulted in almost 1100 package updates. Some noteworthy changes:

  • All X.org related packages have been updated to X.org release 7.5. Mandriva now includes xserver version 1.7.1.
  • Development snapshots of QT 4.6.0 and KDE 4.4 are now included. When you add a Plasma widget, you will be presented with a much more beautiful overview of all available widgets. The Ozone and Nitrogen themes have now been merged in Oxygen. There are lots of improvements in KGet.
  • KTorrent 3.3 is now available. The most important change is a redesigned GUI, which should be less cluttered and easier to use.
  • Firefox 3.6 beta 2 is now available in main/testing. Its engine has undergone lots of work to improve the performance. Also included are tab previews when you press Ctrl-Tab (you need to activate this feature in about:config first, look for browser.CtrlTab.previews), and support for Persona themes. This new version will also inform you when an installed browser plug-in is out of date.
  • NetworkManager has been updated to a recent version and it includes now the GNOME notification applet. It can be used as an alternative to Mandriva networking tools, but these Mandriva packages are highly experimental.
  • Cooker’s GNOME has been updated to the latest version 2.28.1, which contains lots of bug fixes.

On Going Mandriva 2010.0

According to information sent out to Mandriva mirror providers, the uploading of Mandriva Linux 2010 CD and DVD images to FTP/HTTP servers is now under way. As with openSUSE, there is an easy way to upgrade from “Cooker”, Mandriva’s development branch, to Mandriva 2010 final - just follow these steps after 2010 is released (it will not work before then):

* urpmi.removemedia -a
* urpmi.addmedia –distrib –mirrorlist ‘http://api.mandriva.com/mirrors/basic.2010.0.$ARCH.list’
* urpmi.addmedia –distrib –mirrorlist ‘http://plf.zarb.org/mirrors/2010.0.$ARCH.list’ (optionally add the useful PLF repository)
* urpmi –auto-update

The above process will likely also work for upgrading 2009.1 to 2010, but it isn’t officially supported and it should only be attempted by more experienced Linux users. For what it’s worth, we have been running Mandriva “Cooker” on a test machine here at the DistroWatch headquarters for several months and it has given us zero troubles. Also, there have been no “Cooker” updates since last Saturday, so if you’ve been following Mandriva’s development branch, chances are that you are already running Mandriva Linux 2010 final. Enjoy it - it does look like a solid release!

While Ubuntu will undoubtedly steal much of the media spotlight in the next few days, the dark horse among the established distributions, Mandriva Linux, is also nearing the final release of its new version. Expected on 3 November, Mandriva 2010, is set to retain its customised KDE3-like look of the KDE 4 desktop despite dropping all KDE 3 components from the distribution. Some of the new features will include redesigned partitioning screen in the system installer, ext4 as the default file system, a new temporary “guest” account enabled by default, Fedora’s Plymouth as the default bootsplash manager, Linux kernel 2.6.31 with kernel-mode setting and Tomoyo security framework, X.Org Server 1.6.5, KDE 4.3.2 and GNOME 2.28.1, Moblin integration, and, as usual, various improvements to Mandriva’s configuration tools. Last but not least, there will be new artwork, some of which has finally started filtering down into “Cooker” (Mandriva’s development branch) over the weekend - always an exciting part of each distribution’s development process. This is just a fraction of what the new Mandriva will offer so head for the official release notes if you’d like to learn more.

Squid Delay Pool

Begitu mahalnya harga internet di Indonesia, membuat penyedia jasa harus ekstra hati-hati dalam memberikan pelayanan. Satu sisi klien ingin harga murah, di sisi lain klien tidak ingin membayar mahal untuk koneksi internet kencang. Warnet misalnya, dengan 3000 sampai 5000 rupiah per jam dan koneksihanya up to 1 Mbps harus dipaksa melayani lebih dari 10 PC, yang pastinya akan sangat terasa lambatnya jika tidak diatur dengan pengatur bandwidth. Salah satu solusinya dengan squid.

Squid sendiri aplikasi yang digunakan sebagai server proxy cache, http://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squid. Selain itu juga bisa mengatur permintaan bandwidth. Delay Pool sendiri adalah salah satu fitur Squid yang digunakan untuk melakukan pembatasan bandwidth.

Repo Mandriva Pada Server Kambing

Sebenarnya pelaksanaan ini sudah beberapa bulan lalu, namun berhubung libur panjang lebaran kemarin… jadi baru bisa upload informasinya sekarang :p

Untuk memudahkan para pengguna Mandriva di Indonesia dalam hal mendapatkan repository maupun ISO secara cepat dengan akses internet lokal, maka komunitas Mandriva Indonesia yang telah melakukan penggalangan dana secara swadaya / urunan / saweran / patungan, bekerja sama dengan kambing.ui.ac.id untuk menambahkan repository tersebut disamping repository yang sudah ada pada server lainnya. Rilis: Mandriva Linux 2010 RC2

Mandriva 2010 RC2, adalah versi pengembangan terakhir saat ini, kini telah tersedia di mirror publik. Versi RC2 ini tersedia dalam beberapa image:

  • Versi Free, DVD 32 dan 64 bit
  • Versi One, KDE / GNome (tersedia mulai hari senin)
  • Virtual image versi One (tersedia mulai hari senin)

ISO ini adalah versi hybrid, jadi bisa juga di masukkan dalam USB untuk instalasi. Gunakan mandriva-seed yang tersedia di repository, semudah klik saja pakainya!

Versi RC2 ini berfokus pada semua perbaikan bug.

Kamu juga akan menemukan:

- Moblin : Nikmati lingkungan baru untuk desktop linux mobile. Mudah dan ergonomic. Mandriva adalah distribusi linux pertama yang mengintegrasikannya dalam distribusi bebas/free. Menginstallnya mudah. Cukup install paket task-moblin di rpmdrake dan pilih Moblin di connection manager.

- KDE 4.3.2 : versi stabil terakhir dari KDE4. Nikmati inovasi dan kestabilannya!

Panduan Menambah Repository Kambing / Arsip.or.id / Speedy

Bila koneksi IIX Anda lebih cepat ketimbang koneksi internasional, mungkin ada baiknya Anda memilih server dalam negeri untuk mengakses repository Mandriva. Dua Tiga repository lokal yang cukup handal yang penulis ketahui adalah:

Repo i586 / 32 bit

  1. http://kambing.ui.ac.id/mandriva/official/2009.1/i586/

  1. Buka konsole, ketik perintah dibawah ini

    Ganti [URL] dengan  salah satu url repository diatas. Contoh:
    [root@localhost]# urpmi.addmedia --distrib  --mirrorlist http://kambing.ui.ac.id/mandriva/official/2009.1/i586/
  4. Bila hanya media tertentu saja yang ingin anda tambahkan, anda bisa gunkan opsi tambahan –interactive
    # urpmi.addmedia --distrib --interactive --mirrorlist http://kambing.ui.ac.id/mandriva/official/2009.1/i586/

Atau bila tidak ingin repot silahkan unduh salah satu file dibawah ini:

Klik dua kali pada file bersangkutan, lalu masukkan password root.
